Trunk-or-Treat; Halloween- Sunday Oct. 30, 2016

Trunk-or-Treat provides Camp ReCreation Campers and families the opportunity to gather in the fall, reconnect, and catch up while providing a fun and safe environment for Halloween weekend. It allows for Camp ReCreation to partner with the Christ Cathedral campus (where the event will be held) and expand our client list; gathering new potential Campers for Camp ReCreation and ReCreation Jr. We would like for the Trunk-or-Treat experience to include games, a costume parade, face painting and trick-or-treating from car to car. We invite any and all Knights to attend, decorate a car, or to pass out candy!

In 2015 our Lunch with Santa event was one of our most successful events, with over 250 attendees (175 campers and 75 family members). This lunch allows for Campers, old and new to come and have lunch with Santa, receive a handwritten letter from the North Pole, and take a trip to Santa’s Workshop. It allows for new volunteer opportunities for students from the local high schools and for Camp ReCreation to continue to build its attendee list for the summer camps. This event will be held at the Christ Cathedral.

Earth Day Celebration- Saturday April 22, 2017

New to Camp ReCreation this year, an Earth Day Celebration will allow Campers and their families to gather at the Christ Cathedral Campus to learn about and explore the Earth, its natural resources and wonders. Campers will learn about resources, giving back to nature and how to be more conservative. Lunch and games will also be provided to all Campers and their families.

Night at the Ballpark- Angels Game 2017*

A night at the ballpark allows for both Campers and their families to enjoy the experience of a baseball game with fellow Campers and volunteers. During this game we would like to provide families with tickets to the game, a t-shirt and hat, and a hot dog and drink, along with a tailgate/ dance experience before the game. We also invite all Councils of the Knights of Columbus to join us in an opportunity to get to know our Campers, their families and the wonderful volunteers that make Camp ReCreation and Camp ReCreation Jr. possible. *This event will also be held in 2016 on June 26, 2016 with a 12:35pm game time.

Our Participants:

Day camp attendees include all ages. Along with being developmentally disabled, their disabilities range from mild to severe physical handicap. The participants other disabilities include Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Tracheotomy, down’s Syndrome, Myonic Dystrophy, and developmental delays.

During the day, there is time for games, which allow the campers and counselors to work together to relieve the anxiety of first time campers. There is also time for educational adventures which allow for Campers of all ages to expand their knowledge base. Activities are selected to ease the anxiety for the camper who may be leaving his/her caregiver for the first time.

Our Volunteers:

During Day Camps, the ratio of camper to counselor is approximately 2:1, so there are typically 60 to 70 volunteers serving the campers.

Nursing Care:

Day Camps are staffed with a minimum of one EMT/ Paramedic per day camp event, often times we will have 2 to 3 on site. The EMTs/ Paramedics are all volunteers and are registered with the State of California. She/he follows strict medical protocols and guidelines when receiving the campers- and counselors in case of emergency situations.
